Move from labels to operating requirements

A product is not automatically climate-resilient because it appears in a green category. Buyers should define the hazard and operating context: heat, flood, dust, corrosion, water scarcity, unreliable power, difficult access or long replacement lead time.

Specify for lifecycle and recovery

Consider energy and water efficiency, modularity, repairability, availability of consumables and spares, local service capability, expected life, warranty, disposal route and the operational consequence of failure.

Integrate logistics risk

Resilience also depends on packaging, route alternatives, stock positioning, critical-spares strategy and the ability to restore service after an event. Supply-chain continuity belongs in the technical and commercial evaluation.

Regional investment is growing

African infrastructure finance is increasingly incorporating climate and green-growth criteria, including energy, transport and resilient infrastructure. Suppliers and procurement teams need to translate programme-level requirements into verifiable product and delivery specifications.
